From Blind Bags to Wall Art: My LEGO Disney 100 Display

From Blind Bags to Wall Art

DIYing My LEGO Disney 100 Display

When LEGO released their Disney 100 Minifigure Series, I knew right away this was going to be a “must complete” collection. The mix of classic characters and newer favorites was irresistible! From Oswald the Lucky Rabbit to Stitch in his red spacesuit to Baymax, and everything in between, I loved how these looked. We made it our mission to track down every single one, and after some patient hunting (and a little bit of luck with blind bags), we finally completed the set!

The Fun of Collecting

Hunting down each character was half the fun and sometimes a challenge! There were a few doubles along the way (I’m looking at you, Pinocchio), but that just made gifting to friends and loved ones even more exciting.

Once we collected them, I was faced with the "well now what do I do with these?". I don't have a ton of counter/shelf space that I really want to cover with Legos. I took to the internet and social media and watched tons of videos of how people created their own special way to display the minifigures they've collected.

The Plan

I decided to make a custom display that would:

  • Keep the minifigures dust-free

  • Let each character have their own spot

  • Look good enough to hang on a wall or set on a shelf

I started with a simple shadow box frame. Then, I cut a LEGO base plate to fit inside and secured it in place. The real game-changer was using small LEGO bracket plates to create individual mini-stands for each figure. This gave the display a clean, organized look and made it easy to rearrange if I wanted to change the order. I'm really big right now on using what I've already got as decor, instead of buying more, and this gave me the chance to put something on the walls without spending a ton on a new piece.

The Process

  1. Measure & Cut – I measured the inside of the shadow box and trimmed the LEGO base plate to fit snugly.

  2. Attach the Base Plate – I glued the base plate securely to the shadow box backing so it wouldn’t shift. I used hot glue to attach it and it worked great for me.

  3. Add Bracket Plates – Each figure got its own bracket plate for extra stability, ensuring they stay upright even if the box is moved.

  4. Arrange the Characters – I grouped them in a way that balanced colors and themes while keeping certain pairs (like Mickey & Sorcerer Mickey, or the Evil Queen & her Magic Mirror) near each other. I used Blu Tack to stick accessories to the base plate too!

Why This Works So Well

  • Protection from Dust – The shadow box keeps them clean without needing constant dusting.

  • Showcase Your Collection – Every minifigure is visible, so you can enjoy the details that make each one special.

  • Space-Saving – This setup can be hung on a wall, freeing up shelf space for other treasures.

  • Customizable – If I add to my Disney LEGO collection, I can swap figures in and out easily.

When we placed the final minifigure in the display, it felt like finishing a puzzle.

This project combined the joy of collecting with the satisfaction of creating a display that’s both functional and decorative. Now, instead of being tucked away, these little pieces of Disney magic are part of our everyday space. I loved this DIY because of how simple it was to do, and it's versatile. I could literally use this same concept for a variety of other minifigures/small Lego kits to display.

I'm thinking my next DIY home decor is going to come from a box I found in the basement of arrowheads found over the years on my husband’s family farm. It's going to be a special one. I'm still in the brainstorming phase, so stay tuned for more to come on that!

 Happy Crafting!
