Sunrise On The Reaping

I'm a proud bookworm! There, I said it! One of my many wishes in life is that I wished I had more time to read.

I just finish reading Sunrise On The Reaping, and I am still buzzing from how much I loved this book. I have been a huge fan of the series and remember waiting forever for the next book in the series to come out. It's also a series that I got my mom to read, and loved chatting with her about what we thought the next book would be about when we finished.

This book totally swept me away with its vivid world-building and characters that are old friends, but we're getting to see them in a new light. The story is packed with unexpected twists that kept me on my toes but in the best way possible — no spoilers, promise!

Side note, I love that we keep seeing the casting for the movie too...it's only keeping the excitement alive in me!

One thing that really stood out to me was Haymitch's journey — full of resilience, heart, and moments that had me cheering out loud. I loved how Suzanne Collins wove in themes of hope and courage, especially in scenes where the characters have to make tough choices but still find light in the darkest moments, like the scene about the Reaping festival.

The relationships in this story feel so real and heartfelt, which Collins always delivers on this front. You can feel the loyalty and trust building between characters, which adds such emotional depth.

The book moved at an excellent place. I personally didn't feel like anything particular was dragged out.

All in all, I think it's a wonderful young adult series and this 5th volume only added to the whole picture of the Hunger Games Universe, but is a great stand alone story. It provides readers with the opportunity to rethink what their opinions were of certain characters we already have met. It also filled in some gaps that I didn't even know existed, but I loved getting more back story to these characters.

If you're into the series or just checking it out for the first time, I highly recommend this book. It's an epic journey and one that you probably won't want to put down! I liked it so much, that after reading it I listened to the audiobook to revisit it (I love audiobooks during drives or while working).
